The New York Times has extended an offer to Bono, frontman for U2, to write a column for their Op-Ed page. "We have asked Bono to write an occasional column for the paper next year, covering a range of subjects, but are still finalizing the details,"
Times spokeswoman Catherine J. Mathis said.
Editorial page editor Andrew Rosenthal said the former Nobel Peace Prize nominee will write somewhere between six and 10 pieces for the paper, with topics ranging from Africa to global poverty- two issues which have long been causes close to the U2 singer's heart.
Though no payment has been disclosed to the public, Bono's One Campaign spokeswoman Kathy McKiernan said that any money received for the work would be donated straight to the singer-philanthropist's charity.
The Op-Ed section of the Times has brought on such celebrity writers in the past as Bruce Springsteen and Larry David.
